MAKE AN APPOINMENT

What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants : San Marcos – San Diego

Implant dentistry is a procedure that requires skills and experience necessary to perform surgery and tooth restoration successfully.

Your natural teeth are made up of crowns and roots. The crown is the visible part that the white enamel covers. The tooth root which descends into the jawbone acts as a support for the crown. The implant is used to replace the root of the tooth.

What are dental implants ?

Dental implants are basically tooth root replacements. There are three parts to an implant; the implant mechanism itself, the abutment and the crown.  The implant mechanism is implanted straight into the bone. The abutment is the part that is joined to the crown or denture. Dental implants are firmly anchored into the jawbone and are invisible if placed surgically. Implants are used to hold crowns, bridgework or dentures in place.

What are dental implants made of?

Implants are made from titanium which is a strong, lightweight and biocompatible (meaning that the body will not reject it) material. Dental implants and other bone implants are made from titanium and its alloys, which are the most common material used for replacing bone, for example, orthopedic joints. The success rate of dental implant is much higher than any other implant procedure.

Titanium has a special property which allows it to fused to bone. This is called osseointegration (“osseo” means bone, and “integration” means joining with). This is the biological foundation of the success of a dental implant. When you lose your teeth you also lose the bones that were supporting the teeth.

Benefits of Dental Implants

When placed, dental implants stabilize the bone and prevent bone loss.  Dental implants are not only used as replacement for missing teeth, they also help to maintain the shape and density of the jawbone. This means that they also provide support for the facial skeleton and ultimately for the soft tissue structures such as the cheeks, lips and gum tissues.  When the replacement teeth are prepared they usually match the color of your natural teeth’s enamel. This allows you to wear your smile confidently because your implants look exactly like your natural teeth.

When your dental implants are placed, everything about you will look natural; your smile, your speech, and the way you chew and eat.  This creates a positive impact because it offers you social as well as psychological and physical security

  • Dr. Davoudi and her staff are the best. My temporary crown fell off twice because i was not supposed to floss hard (since I am a die hard flosser!) and Dr. Davoudi patiently put it back till my permanent crown became ready in two weeks. I am very happy with the quality of work and my crown. Definitively going back if i need any dental care. it's a great peace of mind to know that you have a quality dentist that you can trust and get dental service from.
